Grande began recording songs for the album soon after the completion of her sophomore album, My Everything (2014), and continued throughout the summer and fall of 2015, between stops on her Honeymoon Tour, with her friends Tommy Brown andVictoria Monet.[4][5] "Focus", which was originally intended to be the lead single from the album,[6] was released digitally on October 30, 2015. The song debuted and peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100,[7] selling 113,000 copies in its first week in the United States. On January 26, 2016, the song was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, for combined sales and streaming units of 1 million equivalent units.[8] Grande finished work on the album on January 22, 2016.[9]

I am speaking the truth.
